These are live process plants — not vacant construction sites — and the interface between civil, mechanical, electrical, and ICA works creates coordination hazards that generic H&S consultants are not equipped to manage.

Water and wastewater construction presents a distinct set of risks that require direct sector experience to manage effectively:
- Confined spaces — vessels, chambers, rising mains, and below-ground structures with confined space entry requirements under the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997
- Biological hazards — Weil's disease (leptospirosis), cryptosporidium, and other biological agents present in wastewater environments requiring COSHH assessment and control
- Live process plant — construction adjacent to operating treatment processes, with permit-to-work requirements and emergency shutdown procedures
- Electrical isolation — high-voltage equipment, telemetry, and process control systems requiring formal lock-out/tag-out and isolation procedures
- Multi-discipline interface — civil, mechanical, electrical, and ICA contractors working in close proximity, with temporary works for buried services and structural modifications

Where temporary works are involved — propping of existing structures, falsework for new chambers, or temporary dewatering systems — we provide our appointed TWC service under BS 5975.
